Government collaborators
Collaborating for our kids
The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program is made possible by the generosity, shared vision and commitment of schools, government, organisations and individuals. Three significant government collaborations have enabled the introduction of the Kitchen Garden Program in 297 schools to date.
National Program
The Australian Government provided $12.8 million of infrastructure funding over four years, to enable up to 190 eligible Australian schools to establish the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden National Program by 2012.
Queensland Program
The Queensland State Government is providing almost $2 million in funding to help 24 schools implement the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Queensland Program. The funding allocation for 2011-2012 is focused on supporting the development of the infrastructure required to run a Kitchen Garden Program.
Victorian Program
The Kitchen Garden Foundation supported 46 new school projects in partnership with the Victorian State Government over a 2005 to 2010 funding period.
The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Victorian Program provided $2.5 million in funding for the rollout of the Kitchen Garden Program into Victorian government schools with primary enrolments. Each successful school received a grant of $62,500 over two years, with $12,500 apportioned towards building a kitchen and garden, and $25,000 per year towards staffing the Program. These grants represented part-funding for the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Victorian Program, with schools expected to contribute the balance from their own resources and community networks.
Foundation funding
In addition to this direct support for schools, the Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood has provided funding through its Strategic Partnership Program to enable the Kitchen Garden Foundation to capture and share the important learning stories from the Kitchen Garden Program at Collingwood College.
The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations has also provided $1 million, over three years, to the Kitchen Garden Foundation to develop online curriculum resources to support the integration of the Kitchen Garden Program into the National Curriculum.
We thank all of these vital supporters for making our work possible.
