Wednesday, June 28, 2017

The second book in the Foundation’s popular early years kitchen garden series has just been released. The new resource contains yet more great cooking and gardening activities for pre-schoolers.

Seasonal Food & Gardening for the Early Years: Book 2 is a practical, illustrated guide focused on introducing young children to pleasurable food education.

The activities, recipes and advice in this book stem from the Foundation’s years of experience teaching children of all ages to appreciate fresh food, grow their own vegetables, herbs and fruit, and establish positive food relationships.

With this book, children can learn how to harvest their own sunflower seeds and make toasted sunflower seed muesli, brew up a bush tea, make their own edible letters with alphabet grissini, create recycled bottle planters and grow bok choy from scraps.

Organised into themes, the book supports educators working in the context of the Australian Government’s Early Years Learning Framework, which aims to support children to become successful and confident learners and individuals who can be active participants in their community. The book also supports early childhood settings achieve the Quality Areas of the National Quality Standard.
