Austins Ferry is north of Hobart on the western shore of the River Derwent. Austins Ferry School was established in 2011 and joined the Stephanie Alexander program in 2014. The school has around 500 students who are very enthusiastic about the garden program. The garden program provides a natural link with all areas of the Australian Curriculum.Our garden specialist has worked energetically with many students to establish six no-dig garden beds which have prolifically provided us with potatoes, corn, tomatoes, herbs, pumpkins, greens and much more. Plots have been established for the planting of fruit trees and beds framing the entrance path welcome us to the garden. Students have created signs and seed collecting is well established. They energetically collect all the autumn leaves from surrounding trees to use in our compost bins.
