Canberra Demo School gets up and running

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Demonstration School, Majura Primary officially launched its Kitchen Garden Program on Thursday 25 March with a fantastic day of celebrations.

The launch was attended by a number of special guests – including representatives from the Australian Department of Health & Ageing and the ACT Department of Education & Training – and saw a wonderful turnout from the school community, past and present.

The formal proceedings were ably hosted by Year 4 student Laila Bradshaw and Stephanie was thrilled to speak to the crowd. Garden and kitchen tours, nibbles, a drama performance and the unveiling of a colourful mosaic plaque topped the day off beautifully.

Majura have big shoes to fill as the Demonstration School for the Australian Capital Territory but are well prepared to showcase the Program to others. As Laila said on the day, “Part of being a Stephanie Alexander Demonstration School means that we’ll be sharing our ideas with other schools in Canberra and the surrounding region who are part of this program or who are interested in becoming part of the program. So our garden will get bigger, we’ll get better at cooking more and more things, and hopefully we’ll enjoy eating things that we might not have tried before.

Well done Majura!
