Rosedale SS is coming up roses ... and potatoes, and pumpkins, and lettuces ...

Rosedale SS in Queensland recently celebrated its official launch of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program.

Special guests included representatives from the local Indigenous community, Bianca Moses (National Project Team Leader at the Foundation) and parents and friends of Rosedale SS. Guests were invited on a tour of the school’s productive garden, led by students who enthusiastically explained various garden features, including the productive vegetable and herb beds, the compost bays and the wonderful art inspired by spiders and their webs.

Following the official proceedings guests cheered on the students and staff participating in the ‘Great Pumpkin Scone Challenge’ and enjoyed a delicious morning tea prepared by students with fresh produce from the garden.

Late last year Rosedale SS was the recipient of a Primary School Citizenship Award as part of the Order of Australia honours. The award recognised the diverse and exciting activities that are being undertaken within the school as part of its involvement with the Kitchen Garden Program.

“Rosedale SS continues to be a shining light in the Kitchen Garden Program. The strong leadership from Principal Kerry Moore and Program Coordinator Angela Skerman means the students enjoy an uncompromised experience in their productive garden and beautiful kitchen,” enthused National Project Team Leader Bianca Moses, “I have no doubt Rosedale’s Kitchen Garden Program will continue to grow from strength to strength”.
