21-03-2011

Growing, harvesting, preparing, sharing - growing a food revolution from the ground up!

Right now, the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program is changing the way primary school children approach and think about food.

All around the country, over 22,500 children are enthusiastically getting their hands dirty and learning how to grow, harvest, prepare and share fresh seasonal food.

Kitchen Garden Schools commit to a dynamic and innovative program that sees kitchen and garden classes run weekly, enabling skills-based learning that extends across the entire school curriculum.

The Kitchen Garden Program:

  • Shows children how to grow their own produce and create delicious meals from their fresh harvest
  • Emphasises the importance of teamwork, project work and sharing experiences
  • Underscores the academic curriculum with practical, experience-based learning in the kitchen and garden
  • Helps engage disengaged learners and gives students as sense of pride
  • Provides a focus and sense of connection in the wider school community
  • Is the reason many children can't wait to get to school - they love it!

Your school can join the kitchen garden community too!
