A taste of Moonah PS
31-03-2011

Tasmanian Kitchen Garden School Moonah Primary recently participated in a special event - the inaugural Moonah Taste of the World Festival.

Presented by the Glenorchy City Council, the festival is a one-day food-based celebration of the multicultural heritage of Glenorchy City and southern Tasmania. By all accounts it was a beautiful sunny day, with many locals arriving to enjoy the entertainment and delicious dishes.

Moonah Primary contributed to the event with a stall selling their kitchen produce and highlighting the Kitchen Garden Program at the school. Nine students helped serve, doing a fantastic job of selling their chutneys, marmalades and pickled turnips. From a small outlay the school made a great profit, which will go to helping them sustain the Moonah Kitchen Garden Program. Eight volunteers for kitchen and garden classes also signed up on the day - a fabulous result.

Next on the Moonah PS calendar is a catering function for the Glenorchy precinct meeting, where the children will prepare and serve pizzas, dips and flatbread to hungry attendees.

It's wonderful to see our Kitchen Garden Schools bringing their skills and experience into the public eye, and getting such rewarding results. Well done to the fabulous Moonah Primary!
