Stephanie and Chevallum SS at the Noosa Food & Wine Festival
24-05-2011

The Noosa Food & Wine Festival took place in Queensland recently, featuring six of our Kitchen Garden Program students taking to the stage to display their kitchen expertise. Stephanie Alexander and the children from Chevallum State School shone at the Festival. Students JuJu, Jim, Allira, Finn, Scarlett and Jasmine demonstrated skills learnt during kitchen classes while creating delicious dishes from fresh ingredients from their school garden.

Chevallum SS Kitchen Specialist Tania Millane and Program Coordinator/Garden Specialist Robyn Cook did a great job of preparing the students for their moment in the spotlight. The students practised and perfected their dishes in the Chevallum SS kitchen in the lead-up to the day.

The team cooked three types of bruschetta: tomato & olive, mushroom & greens with amaretto and zucchini with preserved lemon. There was a large audience and the dishes were a hit with the crowd. Following the demonstration the students enjoyed taste-testing a variety of local produce and a Cobram Estate olive oil tasting.

Congratulations to the Chevallum PS students, Stephanie, Foundation Project Officer Mel Schouten, Chevallum SS Principal Lyn Winch, Tania Millane, Robyn Cook and Keryn Van Kempen (winner of the Fonterra ‘Proud to be a chef' competition) for their assistance in making the day happen.
