Country Style magazine launches its Harvest Table competition at Yarra Primary School

The students at Yarra Primary School have helped Country Style magazine launch its new Harvest Table competition, with a presentation of produce freshly harvested from their kitchen garden. The students presented their produce to Stephanie Alexander and explained how they use it to create delicious dishes in their school kitchen. Stephanie then helped the students arrange the produce to create a beautiful harvest table. The harvest included herb posies, pumpkins, lemons, garlic, beetroot, carrots, rainbow chard, Jerusalem artichokes, rhubarb and fresh eggs from their chooks.

The Harvest Table competition is a chance for students Australia-wide to show off their fantastic gardening skills. Entries can come from the whole school or an individual class. Stephanie will be on the panel of judges and is looking forward to seeing the beautiful harvest table entries: "What an exciting challenge this competition presents! I cannot wait to see the results. Fresh food is so beautiful, as well as tasting delicious. I expect to see red-flushed beetroot leaves, dainty tendrils of snow peas, creamy cauliflowers and all sorts of frilly, floppy, red and green salad leaves!"

Country Style and the competition judges want to see fresh seasonal produce grown and harvested by children and arranged beautifully on a harvest table. Entrants need to photograph their table and write a short description of the produce they have nurtured and grown. Students are encouraged to track the progress of their home veggie patch in a journal and the winning entry will receive an iPad2!

The prizes:

• $5000 for the Best Class or School Harvest Table
• An iPad2 for the Best Home Harvest Table Journal (for individual students).

How to enter:

• For the Best Class or School Harvest Table, provide photographs and a description of the table in 200 words or less, along with the school and class name, adult contact name, address and phone number.
• For Best Home Harvest Table Journal, provide the journal along with the child's and an adult's name, address and phone number.
