Queensland Government announces funding for new Kitchen Garden Schools
15-06-2011

The Bligh Government has just announced it will be providing almost $2 million to help 25 schools implement the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program. The Foundation is absolutely thrilled. It's really exciting to see nationwide support for the kitchen garden community growing!

This is a cultural revolution in healthy living and we sincerely thank the Bligh Government for its commitment to this innovative food education Program,' said Ange Barry, CEO, Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation.

The funding allocation for 2011-2012 means that an additional 3000 Queensland primary schools students will have the opportunity to grow, harvest, prepare and share fresh, seasonal produce.

‘The Program - which has also received funding from the Federal Government - has proved to be popular and worthwhile at Bulimba State School, which is a demonstration site for the Program in Queensland. Students who have taken part in the Program have shown increased willingness to try new foods and have improved their knowledge, confidence and skills in cooking and gardening as a result,' said Education Minister Cameron Dick. The new round of state-funded schools joins 25 schools already running the Program in Queensland, funded by the Australian Government.

We thank the Queensland Government for their commitment to the Kitchen Garden Program and the work of the Foundation. Application information for Queensland Government funding will be available on our website shortly - we will publish details as they come to hand.
