The Gutsy Challenge
29-07-2011

Do you have trouble getting your children to eat enough fruit and veggies? While we know this is less of a problem for parents from Kitchen Garden Schools, it can still be a struggle. The Gutsy Challenge is here to help!

The Gutsy Challenge encourages children to take responsibility for their eating and put what they learn about healthy eating into action. Family and friends sponsor children to eat two pieces of fruit and four vegetables every day for a week. The money raised goes to the GI CANCER Institute to fund clinical research into digestive cancers of the bowel, pancreas, oesophagus, stomach and liver.

The number of overweight or obese primary school aged children is currently around 500,000. As these children grow into adults their rate of obesity increases to over 50%, which can lead to a huge number of health problems including digestive cancers.

The Gutsy Challenge offers children great prizes and fun online games to reward them for eating healthy food.

The Gutsy Challenge website hosts fun online activities for primary school aged children including a digestion game explaining and exploring how food is processed by the body. The nutrition game gives children a clear visual representation of the damage that unhealthy food choices do to their bodies. There are also great teaching resources and lesson plans to teach school students about nutrition and the digestive system.

All money raised during the Gutsy Challenge goes to the GI CANCER Institute to fund clinical research into digestive cancers of the bowel, pancreas, oesophagus, stomach and liver.
