WA schools at Mundaring Truffle Festival
10-08-2011 The Kitchen Garden Program was recently proud to participate in this year's Mundaring Truffle Festival in Western Australia.Stephanie travelled cross-country to host a number of presentations at the popular event. ‘A magnificent life in food' saw Stephanie discussing her food journey, running a restaurant, writing books and of course the Kitchen Garden Foundation. 720 ABC Perth's Truffle Cook Off had presenter Gillian O'Shaughnessy MC-ing a cook off where rivals tried to recreate one of Stephanie's brand-new recipes, with Stephanie herself judging the winner.
But of course the highlight of the festivities was wonderful Western Australian Kitchen Garden Schools, who showed off their kitchen skills as well as their experiences in the Kitchen Garden Program.
In a special presentation, students from East Maddington and Palmyra Primary demonstrated some very capable cooking techniques, preparing two types of delicious bruschetta and a Waldorf salad, while Stephanie discussed the impact the Program has had on them, their schools and their families with an enthralled audience.
In the ‘Sustainability Zone', students from Bertram Primary displayed three beautiful harvest tables lushly decorated with their own fresh garden produce. They also talked very eloquently about the Program to festival-goers about the environmentally friendly benefits of the Program.
A fabulous weekend was had by the participants as well as the audience, and Stephanie thoroughly enjoyed meeting the staff and students of Palmyra, East Maddington and Bertram primary schools.
Thanks to all three school communities for being such wonderful examples of the Kitchen Garden Program.
