GPT Kitchen Garden Week 2011
26-09-2011

The inaugural GPT Kitchen Garden Week at GPT shopping centres has just launched and we're celebrating!

We opened the first GPT Kitchen Garden Week on Thursday 22 September at the Rouse Hill Town Centre Community Kitchen Garden in Sydney's North West. Kitchen Garden Week will be an annual celebration of the partnership between the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation and The GPT Group and in 2011 will run from 24 September to 2 October across six GPT retail centres in NSW and Victoria.

The launch saw members of the local community; special guests and media join Stephanie and students from Hebersham Public School as they demonstrated the Foundation's pleasurable food education philosophy of growing, harvesting, preparing and sharing delicious seasonal produce.

Everyone was delighted to experience the work of the Foundation and enjoy some tasty treats, including bruchetta with broad beans, parmesan & herbs prepared by the students.

‘Working with GPT has enabled the Foundation to take our message to a broader audience, while providing GPT's customers with a taste of the joy of the Kitchen Garden Program. We look forward to many more years working together to spread the kitchen garden message through Australia, beginning with Kitchen Garden Week 2011!' said Stephanie.

Vanessa Orth of The GPT Group explained that GPT was delighted to be celebrating a second year of Partnership with the Foundation:

‘GPT takes its role as a responsible corporate citizen very seriously and we have been delighted to partner with the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation to deliver on our shared goals of enriching people's lives and helping to educate children's food choices. Kitchen Garden Week 2011 has something for everyone, from the green thumb novice to the passionate home cook, and we'd encourage all our customers to pop in and check out all that is on offer.'

Free cooking and gardening workshops for children

A highlight of Kitchen Garden Week will be showcasing the Kitchen Garden Program at GPT centres. For the very first time, trained Kitchen Garden Program Specialists will provide a taste of the Program to children outside of Kitchen Garden Schools, delivering cooking and gardening workshops for children aged 8-12 who sign up. Throughout the nine days of activity, hundreds of children will be able to actively participate in these unique workshops.
