US Congress members visit the Kitchen Garden Program at Whitehorse Primary School
28-06-2010
Whitehorse Primary School was recently treated to a visit from a delegate of American government representatives as part of an Australian Political Exchange Council (APEC) program.
Eight US-based guests were invited to the school as part of a study tour looking at the Australian political and educational system, and including the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program. Guests included members of the US Congress as well as US state government and industry representatives.
Stephanie began the tour by outlining the philosophy and fundamentals of the Kitchen Garden Program, which was followed by a kitchen class in which all the guests enthusiastically participated.
There followed a lively discussion of the benefits of the Kitchen Garden Program, which was roundly applauded as ‘absolutely fantastic' by the amazed visitors.
The exchange visitors and Foundation staff were treated to a wonderful lunch of Moroccan specialties including pumpkin and lentil tagine, chickpea salad and burani badjun, a tasty eggplant dish, all cooked by Whitehorse Primary School students.
APEC exists to facilitate the exchange of ideas between Australian and other countries. This tour was part of an exchange between the US and Australia, and similarly members of the Australian Government will visit the US later in the year. For more information on APEC, please see: .
