Letters from Paynesville Primary tell of the Program's success and student appeal
13-01-2010
Stephanie was delighted to receive a bundle of letters from the Year 5/6 students at Paynesville Primary School before Christmas. We enjoyed reading about their experiences in the garden and kitchen, and hope you will too.
..........
"Our names are Nicole and Bryanna; we are both aged 11 and have been really inspired by your cooking and gardening program. We are writing from Paynesville Primary School in East-Gippsland Victoria. We thank you for this program as it has become our favourite classes in the school."
NICOLE & BRYANNA
..........
"We are both learning how to keep the peas under control, by eating them!"
"Every week we use lettuce or raw cabbage for the salad. We often use rosemary or mint. We also make our own dressing for the salad."
KATIE & ERIN
..........
"We both like cooking the most because we get the chance to cook different foods and then eat them. We both loved making pasta using the pasta maker. It tasted really nice too. In gardening we both like watering the garden."
"I learnt how to cut food by using the bear grip and Jake learnt that you can't make crepes too thick otherwise they won't fold."
JAKE & RILEY
..........
"In gardening we sometimes, well most of the times, we harvest and we also learn to plant little plants as well as seeds. We water the plants all as a group."
JOSHUA
..........
"We enjoy cooking the most because we love to make and try new foods. Our favourite thing that we've tried is cheesey broccoli crepes. We loved how the broccoli was cooked in a different way to what we've tried before."
"We have used many different gardening tools, cooking utensils and lots of different foods that we haven't tried before."
RIANA & ELISHA
..........
"We think cooking is cool and eating the finished product is yum. We use fresh produce from the garden which we harvest and have looked after. Lots of thanks for inventing the program."
CHRISTOPHER & BRAYDEN
..........
"Shaun enjoys cooking the most because it will help you cook later on in life. Elle also enjoys cooking the most because if my mum made these foods I would never have tried: thanks to cooking I now try different foods. We would like to thank you for this wonderful program. We think it is the best part of the school week! (Because the weekend is the best bit!!!)"
ELLE & SHAUN
..........
"The things we enjoyed the most are having gardening and harvesting the great produce from the garden to cook in our cooking classes the next day."
TONI, TAYLOR, JULIA & JESS
..........
"We learn how to harvest, plant and prune plants. Sometimes we have to work in the compost! It's all great fun! My favourite thing I have done in the garden would be learning about the life cycle of a plant."
ELA
..........
A big thank you to Kitchen Specialist Bronwyn Benson for sharing the letters with us, and of course to the kids for writing them!
