Foundation awarded one of five 2010 Premier's Design Awards!
26-07-2010

The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation has been awarded a prestigious Premier's Design Mark in this year's Victorian Premier's Design Awards. This is a mark of excellence that recognises the Kitchen Garden Program's outstanding engagement with design.

The Premier's Design Awards "highlight exemplary initiatives in and from Victoria where design has been used effectively, sustainably and strategically to innovate, increase productivity and/or boost competitiveness and exports".

Only five awards were presented this year, in recognition of the most outstanding design initiatives in Victoria. The final decision was based on fulfilling a set of criteria that included the need for the design, the quality of the design outcome and process, and the value of the collaboration and engagement with the design process with consideration of the wider social and environmental benefits.

"The idea of the Kitchen Garden Foundation and its ultimate establishment resulted from a lateral, design thinking approach to a significant social issue, while development of the program in detail involved commissioning designers to collaborate on specific solutions at critical steps along the way".

We are thrilled to receive this acknowledgement, which recognises a part of our Program that often goes overlooked - the amount of time and consideration given to planning the Program so that it enjoys the success it does. We appreciate the recognition of this through the State of Design initiative, and congratulate the other winners.
