Medibank Community Fund Partnership

The students at Sunshine North Primary School took centre-stage when the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation announced a new partnership with the Medibank Community Fund. The partnership will see Medibank invest in the future health and wellbeing of the next generation of Australians by helping the Foundation bring the Kitchen Garden Program to another 70,000 additional Australian school children over the next four years.

Eaglehawk PS shows off at a show-down

The morning of 21 July saw a kitchen show-down between student cook Shardae Sharp, from Eaglehawk Primary School, versus ABC radio’s Corey Hague. Shardae, age 12, won the right to compete on stage at Bendigo’s Festival of Lamb after she championed a qualifying cook-off at her school. The challenge to make a dish using fresh local produce in half an hour, and was MC’d by Cam Smith from RRR radio’s ‘Eat It’.

We welcomed Angela Villella, co-author of Mangia!Mangia!, to the kitchen at the Learning Centre on 23 June. Angela led a fascinating workshop on creating Calabrian pancetta and salami in the home kitchen. The session was attended by an enthusiastic group who were treated to a hands-on workshop where sleeves were rolled up from the word go!

Busy times at the Learning Centre

The kitchen and garden at our Learning Centre at Collingwood College have been sites for much activity recently. Two fantastic workshops were run on a Saturday in late May. Jenny England from Merrywood Plants led an informative workshop on espaliering and Sandy Leatham of Benalla’s Hook & Spoon led a very popular sausage and salami making workshop.

South Australia Professional Development Day

Kitchen Garden School Kilkenny PS hosted our recent South Australian Kitchen Garden Specialist Professional Development day on 12 June. It was the biggest South Australian PD ever with 42 participants in total, including Principals, Kitchen and Garden Specialists, volunteers from kitchen and garden classes and Classroom Teachers.
