Visitors to the Stonefields Open Garden Weekend will be able to see the benefits of food education first hand thanks to local Kitchen Garden Program Schools.
Paul Bangay’s Stonefields Open Garden Weekend 16 & 17 April, which is halfway between Daylesford and Kyneton, will feature stalls by four Kitchen Garden Program Schools from the surrounding area:
Winters Flat Primary’s stall will be bursting with products made by the school and local producers, such as preserves, Anzac biscuits, coffee, printed linen tea towels featuring designs by students, local apples and honey, and Wheat Belt’s hay bale covers.
Taradale Primary will be selling plants that the children have grown from cuttings, seeds the children have collected, as well as jams and preserves.
Tylden Primary will also be selling jams and chutneys, as well as produce from their school garden, and Daylesford Primary will be selling copies of their cookbook Grow, Cook, Eat.
The schools will also have Kitchen Garden Program displays, showing how students learn in the kitchen, garden and classroom through the Program (and all the fun they have doing it!)
The representatives from each school will be happy to talk to Stonefields visitors about their school’s Kitchen Garden Program, so drop by and have a chat!
Volunteers are a huge part of the Kitchen Garden Program and some of the schools will also be seeking new volunteers, so if you have a passion for cooking or gardening visit the stalls and find out how you can become a part of the Program.
The Kitchen Garden Foundation team will also have a marquee at the event, so if you’d like to find out more about the Foundation and our work with schools and early years learning centres pop in and say hi!
