Torrens Primary School opened in 1968 and is located in the suburb of Torrens in central Canberra. The suburb is named after a former Governor of South Australia Sir Robert Torrens. Three preschools located in the suburbs of Pearce, Chifley and Torrens are attached to Torrens Primary School. Torrens has an enrolment of about 500 students - 64 students in the preschools and around 440 in the primary school. The school's motto 'Teamwork and Tolerance' reflects the aims of the school to encourage a spirit of co-operation and community while fostering respect and understanding for all.  The school aims to provide quality experiences that empower students to live in and contribute to a changing society.
