Giralang Primary School is in the Belconnen region of the ACT. The school currently has 184 students (P-6) with approximately 3 percent of the student population being recognised as having Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander heritage. The primary school students are divided into 8 small classes to assist teachers in presenting the students with the most appropriate programs and to meet individual student needs. In 2012 10 percent of the student population at Giralang was identified as having special needs. These students are integrated into our inclusive mainstream classrooms with individualised learning plans and additional support to further develop their social and academic skills. Many of these students also sit the annual NAPLAN assessments when appropriate for their year level. Giralang Primary provides an intimate caring small-school environment while providing the range and depth of educational programs you might expect from a larger school. Our vision statement “Adventure in Learning Caring and Achieving” reflects the innovative approach to the teaching and learning process at Giralang Primary School.
