Miles Franklin School is situated in the Canberra suburb of Evatt and was established as a learning community in 1980. We enrol children from our priority enrolment area in Evatt and a range of suburbs across the Belconnen region and New South Wales from Preschool (four years of age) to Year Six (twelve years of age). The local community named the school after Stella Miles Franklin, the author who wrote' My Brilliant Career' and grew up in the Brindabella ranges to the west of the school. The community upholds the tradition of Miles Franklin with the annual celebration of the author's birthday and a Kindergarten to Year Six Brilliant Writers competition with entries in both English and French. The school is committed to providing contemporary learning aligned to the Australian Curriculum. We teach the curriculum though the six IB transdisciplinary themes: Who we are, Where we are in place and time, How we express ourselves, How the world works, How we organise ourselves and Sharing the Planet.
