This online course combines online course materials with in-class testing completed by the educator. The course is facilitated via online discussions which investigate how the kitchen and garden provide opportunities for Inquiry Learning, to provide strengthened classroom learning. It is ideal for teachers at Kitchen Garden Program and member schools and centres who are beginning to integrate pleasurable food education classes with the broader curriculum, but all staff are welcome. The content assumes you have a good working knowledge of Inquiry-based Learning and how to implement it.

In this course the Kitchen Garden Foundation will help Members and Program schools explore:

  • The Inquiry Learning stages
  • Ideas on how to get started with Inquiry-based Learning in the kitchen and garden
  • Opportunities to share your ideas about Inquiry Learning with your course peers
  • Time to devise and test your own kitchen and garden related Inquiry Learning theme.

The Summer Intake of the course will be open until mid-April. The course involves direct contact time of approximately five hours, as well as your own in-class testing time at your school. This course is suitable for all teachers but is most applicable to primary level teachers.

Additional Details

This approximately five-hour course can be completed at any stage through out the course dates. It is accessible 24/7 for the duration of the course. This course would equate to 5.0 NON-ACCREDITED professional development hours. 

This course uses the platform CANVAS (Instructure), which is accessable via mobile device or a desktop/laptop.

Please note the course registration cut-off date is approximatelty two-weeks prior to the course completion date, to ensure students gain the maximum benefit of the materials.
