Growing gardens need structure but it doesn't all have to be purely practical. Learn to create beautiful and functional bamboo structures for the school garden with practising artist Jamie Parkin.

Details

Jamie specialises in the creation of ephemeral bamboo structures for shade, interaction and inspiration. Grounded in function and lifted by the fresh and flowing forms suggested and discovered within the bamboo, his work exists somewhere between a structure and a sculpture.

He began to learn the language of the 'boo' in 2002 on the site of the Woodford Folk Festival. Initially guided by the wisdom of bamboo elders, Jamie soon began to resonate with the qualities and colours the materials contained and found his way to new shapes and designs. He developed his practice deep in the fun and vibrancy of festivals and continues to explore the space between the modern and the ancient looking for alive and crazy forms to fill these happening spaces.

This workshop will be an exploration of the many different ways you can use bamboo to provide climbing structures, shade and beauty in your school garden.
