
Designing a vegetable garden can be a daunting prospect for some, but it doesn't need to be! Led by experienced garden designer Derek Ashby, this workshop will cover all the basic concepts you need to consider when designing your own kitchen garden space. Be it large or small, you'll learn everything you need to know, from design ideas to aspect, through to the ideal bed sizes for your garden.

Held at our Learning Centre in Melbourne, design and build expert Derek Ashby will guide you through all the initial steps to consider when designing your own vegetable garden. Good planning is the key to success, whether it be the aspect, the number and location of your beds or how they are built. Using the Learning Centre garden as a guide and discussion tool, the group will work through best-practice concepts to take home and put into practice.
Additional Details
Please wear covered shoes suitable for working in the garden, and bring appropriate outdoor gear such as garden gloves, hats or coats. If weather is inclement the workshop will move indoors.
Enter the College via the main reception area, which is located near the end of Cromwell Street, and follow the signs to the garden.
Public transport is usually the best way to get to Collingwood College, with Collingwood train station only minutes away. On Saturdays there may be limited parking in the immediate vicinity of the College. Other parking options are generally the north and south sides of Hoddle Street, in Gipps Street and in the parking zone at the end of Islington Street.
