Winter is the perfect time to look at the garden and start preparing for the warmer months. In this workshop we will look at two key garden techniques that involve layering: composting and no-dig beds.

This is Part 2 of the two-part Garden Workshop August Pack – you may book into parts separately, but we highly recommend you book the two together for a full training package, as well as receiving a discount on the total package.

Held at our Learning Centre in Melbourne, participants in this workshop will enjoy both discussion and hands-on learning opportunities led by expert gardener Pete Huff. Composting is a key garden activity, but one that is very often done incorrectly. When the right techniques are incorporated the results should be rich, friable compost that enhances the vegetable garden and makes full use of kitchen and garden waste. No-dig beds use a similar concept of layering wet with dry materials, with the end result being beautifully productive planting beds that can be created in gardens small or large, and in the school or home garden.

Please bring gloves and sturdy outdoor clothes suitable for the weather on the day.

Enter the College via the main reception area, which is located near the end of Cromwell Street, and follow the signs out to the garden.

Public transport is the best way to get to Collingwood College, with Collingwood train station only minutes away. There is generally no parking in the immediate vicinity of the College, although there may be some on Saturday mornings. Best parking options are generally the north and south sides of Hoddle Street, in Gipps Street and in the parking zone at the end of Islington Street.
