
Getting Started is an introductory online workshop series that is suitable for anyone new to pleasurable food education, including Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary educators. It is also beneficial for Kitchen Garden programs who have new or additional staff to train.
Join the SAKGF Delivery team for two online interactive workshops (1 x 60 minutes and 1 x 120 minutes). Participants will receive collections of supporting resources to study in their own time. Please read these prior to the workshop to get the most out of the session times together.
This workshop series is designed to give participants an insight into the pleasurable food education philosophy, key tips on establishing a garden and kitchen in your school or service, an overview of kitchen and garden classes and experiences, inspiration for linking to learning and engaging your local community.

Over the two interactive workshops and through the provided resource collections, participants will:
- understand what pleasurable food education is
- consider how to establish a garden and kitchen in your context
- develop a sense of what a kitchen garden classes and experiences look like
- explore opportunities for linking to learning
- understand how to connect to your community
- see what types of learning opportunities, resources and support are available
- ask questions about what you need to get started in your kitchen garden program

Training outcomes for Primary and Secondary teachers:
The outcomes of this course are aligned to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers as outlined by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL).
Completing Getting Started In Your Kitchen Garden will contribute evidence towards 3.0 hours of accredited professional development in maintaining the following standards:
- 2.2 – Organise teaching content into effective learning and teaching sequence
- 3.2 – Plan structure and sequence learning programs
- 3.4 – Select and use resources
- 4.2 – Manage classroom activities
- 6.2 – Engage in professional learning and improve practice.

The two online workshops will run on the same weekday, one week apart. These sessions will be run on:

The online workshops will take place using Zoom. A link will be sent to all registered participants before the event. You can join the workshops using a computer or tablet.
A recording of the workshops will be sent to participants after the session.
