This full-day workshop offers a wonderful opportunity to develop your garden and kitchen skills skills and spend time with fellow Kitchen Garden Program staff from other schools. Expert presenters will lead a range of workshops where you will be able to learn new skills and advance existing ones.

Throughout the day there will be plenty of time for networking with the growing community of kitchen and garden Specialists and teachers.

The ultimate garden and kitchen learning experience: a day filled with hands-on workshops, discussion and skill sessions led by engaging presenters as will as plenty of opportunities to collaborate with Kitchen Garden Program colleagues.

This will be a fun-filled day of learning shared with your local Kitchen Garden Program peers. This workshop-based day will provide an opportunity for building your skills in particular areas of the kitchen or garden. In addition to the skills workshops you will have plenty of time to catch up and make new connections with peers from the Kitchen Garden Program community. There will also be time to catch up on news from the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation.

Skills workshops will be available to sign up for when you arrive on the day. There is no need to pre-select workshops as has been done in the past. 
 

Cheese Making with Sara Breckenridge.
 
 
Sara is the Kitchen Specialist at Bulimba State School and has five years experience in running their highly successful classes for children. Work with Sara to make fresh Ricotta, Paneer and Haloumi  which will form part of our delicious lunch on the day.

 

 
Gluten Free and Grain Free with Tania Hubbard
 
 
Tania Hubbard is the undisputed Queen of (Gluten Free) Tarts and is a powerhouse of ingredient substitution when it comes to Gluten and Grain free cooking. This is a ‘must-do’ workshop if you have gluten-free students, volunteers or family members. Learn how to make beautifully textured delicious bread and pastry which we will also enjoy for our lunch. Honey beekeeping with Kate Miller
 
 
Kate is a teacher at Currumbin Community Special School and is a registered beekeeper in New South Wales and Queensland. Kate manages the hives at Currumbin Community Special School and has covered all Risk Assessment & WHS issues at the school. Kate believes that every school should consider having a honey bee hive and can answer any questions and link you to beekeepers in your area. If you have ever considered beekeeping this is the workshop for you.

 

 
Maintaining Soil Health and Composting with Gold Coast Permaculture
 
 
Gardens in the sub-tropics rarely have ‘down-time’ due to the intense planting needed to maintain abundant produce for the school kitchen. This workshop will give practical, low-cost ways of managing soil fertility to maximise your garden output. 
 

Additional Details

Please wear comfortable clothing for kitchen and garden workshops and closed shoes.  Bring a hat/wet weather gear/sunscreen as appropriate, a camera, notebook and pen.
