Program Delivery Training is mandatory training provided for Kitchen Garden Teachers at our National Program schools running the 'Flexible Model' from 2013 onwards. It is in-depth, hands-on training designed to provide all the basics to teachers delivering kitchen and/or garden classes, as well as specialists who deliver classes under the National Program.

It consists of two sessions, an Introductory session and an Advanced session, each of which runs over two days. These sessions are scheduled approximately six months apart and are each divided into a 'kitchen stream' or a 'garden stream'.

Details

Intake 1 Introductory sessions were delivered in February 2013, and participants return for their Advanced Training in August 2013.

Each school running the 'Flexible Model' (with at least one teacher leading kitchen or garden classes without the additional presence of the students’ classroom teacher ) should send two staff members to this training. It is designed for the staff members who will deliver kitchen and garden classes, whether they are a teacher or a specialist. If schools have only one staff member delivering kitchen classes as well as garden classes, a supporting Kitchen Garden Assistant is required to attend this training. It is each school's decision  which person attends the kitchen stream or the garden stream within this training.

Please note: If your school is running the 'Intensive Model' (in which all kitchen and garden classes are either teacher or specialist-led but a classroom teacher is also in attendance), you will instead attend the Kitchen Garden Specialist Introductory and Advanced Training sessions. If you are unsure which model you are running, please check with the nominated Program Coordinator at your school.

The training days are full days, with hands-on workshops in kitchen and garden environments, along with some group work. Everything from the philosophy of the Foundation, to specific kitchen and garden skills, through to managing the Program at your school will be covered in these training days. Importantly you will also meet other new Kitchen Garden Schools, have an opportunity to connect with other teachers new to the Kitchen Garden Program, meet some of our Foundation staff, and learn how to use our Shared Table website to support your progress through the Program.

We look forward to working with you!

Additional Details

You will choose from either the 'kitchen stream' or the 'garden stream' at the training, depending on your area of specialty at your school. Please come prepared for hands-on sessions in the kitchen or garden, so closed shoes are a must, and the garden workshops may be outside for parts of each day so participants should bring hats, sunscreen and coats as necessary.

You will receive a copy of the Introductory or Advanced Kitchen Garden Program Syllabus at your sessions, as well as a folder containing useful handouts for supplementary information.
