Weclome to the Kitchen Garden Foundation's first short online course! This course investigates how the kitchen and garden provide opportunities for Inquiry-based Learning, to provide strengthened classroom learning. It is ideal for teachers at Kitchen Garden Program and Member schools and centres who are beginning to integrate pleasurable food education classes with the broader curriculum, but all staff are welcome. The content assumes you have a  good working knowledge of Inquiry-based Learning and how to implement it.

Details

The course will be open to you for two months, but we estimate direct contact time will be around six hours. In this course the Kitchen Garden Foundation will help you explore:

  • The Inquiry Learning stages
  • Ideas on how to get started with Inquiry Learning in the kitchen and garden
  • Opportunities to share your ideas about Inquiry-based Learning with your course peers
  • Time to devise and test your own kitchen and garden related Inquiry Learning theme.

You will also use be encouraged to use your access to the 'Shared Table', the online kitchen garden community site that contains resources, images, videos, activity posting and a forum area for discussion.

This course is suitable for all teachers but is most applicable for primary level teachers.

Additional Details

This approximately four-hour course can be completed at any stage over a two-month period. It is accessible 24/7 for the duration of the course. You will work alongside the same group of users for the entire period.

An Introduction to Using Inquiry Learning in the Kitchen and Garden adds value to the extensive face-to-face training all Program Schools and Members will have undertaken. It could also be undertaken independently by any teacher new to the school or centre, or who is looking to strengthen thir curriculum links with an existing kitchen garden program.

Please note that this is an online learning format and we use the platform CANVAS (Instructure). You will receive a confirmation email once you have registered, and your course access will be sent a few days in advance of the course commencing. You have a set timeframe of two months to complete the course but within the start and end dates you can complete the course at your own pace. There are no set times for attending webinars as everything you need will be within the online learning platform. This course would equate to to 6.0 NON-ACCREDITED professional development hours.
