Immerse yourself in the honest, earthy aromas of the Italian countryside, without leaving Melbourne! In Keryn Ursi’s workshop you’ll discover the full bodied, rich, earthy flavours of chestnut, mushroom, potato and spelt as we create a delicious, rustic three-course meal. You’ll be delighted to see how easy it is to create these authentic regional Italian dishes.

This workshop is part of the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival’s ‘Earth’ series. Tickets will be on sale from 1 February 2013.

Founder of La Micia Cooking, Keryn Ursi is passionate about the down to earth cooking of north and central Italy. You’ll benefit from Keryn’s experience working at renowned restaurant Osteria La Gatta, and the authentic home-style influence of Nonna Marianna (now 96) who started making pasta at age eight. We’ll make a variety of dishes that may include authentic baked chestnut gnocchi with mushroom sauce, a range of pastas including hand-twisted strozzapreti, orecchiette or the buckwheat pizzoccheri. We’ll top that with a sumptuous Italian sweet dish such as custard, almond or chocolate tart, chestnut cake, semi-freddo or sorbet. (The exact menu will be a surprise, depending on what produce is looking good on the day.) You’ll be ready to wow your friends, and they might just ask you if you’ve been on holiday anywhere special recently!

We’ll celebrate Italian style, enjoying the fruits of our labour with an array of dishes, a good glass of wine and good company – Italian style.
