There is a craft to successful seed raising and propagating that combines an understanding of the growing medium, the seed, the plant stock and the environmental conditions. Leanne Harper will lead this workshop, looking at the factors involved in selecting plants to grow seed, saving seed and striking seed.
Details
Leanne was born in Cairns and raised with an appreciation of the beautiful surrounding natural environment. Revegetation using the subtropical rainforest species of QLD and NSW was a hobby while flying professionally for 18 years. Leanne retired due to medical reasons in 1997, and her ill health led to personal study of nutritional and herbal medicine. This in turn led to in-depth studies of soil science and ecological agriculture, in an effort to grow food with the maximum nutrient density possible. Now passionate about home-grown health, Leanne lives semi-sustainably on five acres at Samfor, with her husband and three boys, and works in the role of Coordinator of the Samford Organic Group.
This will be an engaging, enlightening workshop on not only how but why seed saving and propagating is vital to growing productive, healthy crops.
