Why save seeds? Several reasons: it’s easy and cheaper than buying seeds and seedlings, it ensures you grow plants from healthy, thriving stock, and it maintains your plant families to ensure heritage and purity. You’ll learn everything you need to know in this engaging and educational workshop led by passionate seed saver Brian Hosking, including when and how to gather seeds as well as seed cleaning and storage. Brian will bring along plenty of samples and show participants hands-on experience in these basic techniques.
Details
Brian Hosking established Bendigo’s first community garden, Gravel Hill Gardens, where he worked for five years teaching permaculture. Brian established a local seed bank, a nursery and Community Supported Agriculture system on the two-acre site. Since 2007 Brian has been working as a Garden Specialist at two schools, Eaglehawk Primary School, where he teaches children all aspects of food growing, soil husbandry, composting and plant propagation. Brian also consults to schools and the general public regarding food gardening and permaculture, while working to establish his own permaculture garden among 18 acres of box-ironbark forest in Axedale.
This workshop is scheduled at the perfect time to prepare for bountiful summer crops.
