Details

This small bus tour (capped at 10 people) will visit three very different, equally inspiring gardens in the greater Melbourne area.

We’ll start at a small school for students with specific needs, which has used its tiny school grounds resourcefully, packing in growing spaces and practical areas for small classes. Then we’ll head to the Friends Garden at the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre, a hospice setting for people of all ages with acquired brain injuries. This large and inspired sensory garden, though not a food production garden, offers a huge wealth of ideas perfectly applicable to school food gardens. A lunch break will see us at a large suburban school running an intensive food education program with a considerable cohort of students.

After our three school visits we will facilitate an informal garden design workshop enabling us to sketch, document and otherwise play with the ideas we have seen, developing ideas for sensory elements in our own school gardens.

If you have scale plans of your garden they may be useful to bring along (photocopies would be best, so that you can write or sketch on them).

The tours are suitable for staff from interested schools and new Kitchen Garden Schools, as well as our Subscribers and interested members of the public. All welcome!
