This course provides educators with teaching tools and materials focused on the tuning in phase of an inquiry learning project. The intention is to spark student inquiry into the role of media in food promotion, presentation and production.

Students play an active role in their own learning. This course uses inquiry-based learning as the foundation for students to understand and critique the presentation of food in the media. This is a valuable course for any educator, pre-service teacher or Kitchen Garden Specialist keen on integrating kitchen and garden learning across the curriculum.

This course provides:

  • Teaching strategies for integrating media literacy with the kitchen and garden
  • Access to a range of royalty-free media assets to use in any classroom
  • Tips and resources for encouraging student inquiry
  • Access to a network of educators and Kitchen Garden Specialists to discuss and share ideas with.

Additional Details

This is a self-paced online course using the CANVAS (Instructure) platform, accessable via mobile device or desktop/laptop.

The course materials can be completed at any stage through out the duration of the course and it is estimated that these will take approximately 2-3hrs. This includes online learning as well as time 'in-class' to test the materials at your school and report back via the discussion forums.

Please note, if you have already attended the ‘Introduction into Inquiry-based Learning in the Kitchen Garden’ online course with the Foundation, this course will repeat what you have learnt.
