Rise, shine and crow in the Year of the Rooster in the kitchen and garden.

The lunar calendar is based on lunar cycles. The Lunar New Year starts with the new moon of the first lunar month of the year, and is historically celebrated in Southeast and South Asian countries.

This year the Lunar New Year falls on 28 January and, according to the Chinese calendar, heralds in the Year of the Rooster. Already renown for rousing people and getting them to start their working day, the Rooster is also said to symbolise honesty and punctuality in the Chinese zodiac.

So embody Rooster qualities this weekend by waking early and heading into the garden to embark on some Moon Planting.

Then make for the kitchen for an honest day of work, preparing Dau Dua Trung Chien (Snake Bean Flat Omelettes) and Spinach Wontons to eat, drizzled with some delicious Spring Onion Oil.
