Find your Olympic Spirit in the Kitchen and Garden

Friday, June 10, 2016

Olympic Games have a special way of capturing the world’s attention. With all eyes glued to the medal count, the Rio 2016 Olympic Games offers endless opportunities to engage the hearts and minds of Australian students and extend their learning.

The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation has a fun and rewarding selection of Olympic-related resources that make it easy to take advantage of educational opportunities in the kitchen and garden.

  • Food and Sport is a resource collection jam-packed with class ideas to extend students’ understanding of how different types of foods are needed for strong, growing, active bodies, particularly athletes. The activities will suit older primary and early secondary years students.
  • The Olympic Activity Cards set is taken from the Food and Sport unit and includes seven activity cards, each with a themed learning idea directly linked to the relevant section of the Australian Curriculum.
  • Worm Olympics is an old favourite – a simple and hugely entertaining garden game ideal for early learning and early primary years. The resource shows you how you can stage your very own Worm Olympics.
  • Cook Your Way Around the World is a selection of activities suitable for students of any age. Let the Olympic Games take your taste buds on a trip around the world by cooking the cuisine of countries that are topping the medal count.
