A gift for the graduates

Friday, November 6, 2015

Thomas Chirnside Primary School have a lovely school tradition. Each year they give their graduating Year 6 class signed copies of Kitchen Garden Cooking with Kids with Stephanie Alexander.

The school started the tradition back in 2010 in the very first year they joined the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program and have given each graduate their own signed cookbook every year since.

The Year 6 graduates are also awarded a Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Graduation Certificate and a dedicated and enthusiastic green thumb is also chosen to receive special recognition. Emma was the happy recipient of the Garden Award in 2014 and can be seen here with Brendan Bolton, the school’s Garden Specialist.

A kitchen garden cookbook is a great memento for Year 6 students who often treasure their kitchen garden classes and can be sad to see them end. Although now, with the Kitchen Garden Classroom open for secondary schools as well, more and more students will be able to continue their kitchen garden journey beyond their primary years.

The Foundation’s online shop has a complete collection of signed cookbooks from Stephanie Alexander, as well as Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation aprons that would also make a great gift for any graduating class. All proceeds from sales go towards helping the Foundation support schools and learning centres to deliver pleasurable food education to Australian children.
