Berengarra is an independent, co-educational, special school that caters for junior secondary aged students with social and/or emotional difficulties who experienced difficulties in mainstream school. It functions as a long term intervention program that aims to return students to mainstream education or the TAFE system. We aim to break the cycle of failure and skill students for responsible participation in the community. Students stay between 6 months and 2 years. They present with the following issues: ADHD, Aspergers Syndrome, Oppositional Defiance Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, School Refusal and Post Traumatic Stress. The school's program is based on an alternative curriculum of therapeutic and hands-on activities, and a school structure that ensures small class sizes of no more than 10 students.
