Tawonga Primary School is a small rural school of three classrooms servicing the farming and tourist town of Tawonga and its district near the foot of Mount Bogong in Victoria's north-east. The mission of Tawonga Primary School is to educate students with the life skills necessary to achieve academic, social and emotional success. The school motto is 'promoting healthy and happy children, learning to live!' This aim is achieved by providing a positive, caring environment where teachers and parents work in partnership. High expectations, meaningful activities, quality instruction in an orderly learning environment, and independent thinking are all paramount. These have been instrumental in maintaining high levels of success in literacy and numeracyover a number of years. Specialist programs include art and library, swimming, skiing and a school camps program from years two to six. The school works cooperatively with other schools in the Upper Kiewa Valley Cluster to provide professional development and program-sharing for teachers as well as sporting events and excursions for children. The school is to be partly rebuilt early in 2010 with two new classrooms to give a more connected cluster of buildings looking across the extensive playground to the mountains beyond.
