Gairdner Primary School is a rural school in the heart of the south coastal farmland located next to the famous Fitzgerald Biosphere/National Park. The closest town is Jerramungup located 32km to the northwest providing the feeder District High School. The community is mainly involved in the farming industry and employment related to this. A very successful 50th birthday celebration was held in 2010 supported by the Gairdner community who have over the years helped build the school making it a place where they are happy to send their children and grandchildren. Our vision is to use teaching practices which ensure students have equitable access to learning aiming to develop engaged individual and collaborative thinkers. Our school offers education for children from four years of age to twelve years of age. Students learn in multi-aged class groups the largest group never exceeding 19 students. This supports identification of individual differences allowing teachers to tailor learning for all students and undertake collaborative group work in a supportive and safe environment. 90% of our students achieve over national assessment benchmarks in the NAPLAN with Reading and Mathematics consistently showing outcomes towards and over the State average. Our curriculum priorities focus mainly on spelling and writing ensuring that these areas maintain consistent and positive assessment outcomes.
