One Arm Point School is part of a coastal community situated on a narrow point of land and is flanked by the ocean on three sides. The school serves an Aboriginal community of some 400 Bardi people. The nearest town of Broome is situated 220 km south. The school offers education for students from years K to 12. Its distinctive educational programs recognise the cultural and language background of its students whilst striving to achieve comparable levels of mainstream student performance. These programs include a nationally recognised and award winning program of Cultural Studies an intensive English language curriculum language education classes in the local Bardi language partnerships with neighbouring schools to enhance delivery of Vocational Education empowerment of parents as partners in their child's education through Home Literacy and Numeracy programs.
