Getting Started: An Online Course for Educators

This course has been designed for educators who want to understand the basics of setting up and running a successful kitchen garden program. 

Getting Started: An Online Course for Educators includes self-directed learning derived from the print publication Getting Started: An Educator’s Guide to Establishing a Kitchen Garden Program. The eight modules of this course include both text and video based instruction which deliver the course outcomes, as well as downloadable resources such as templates, recipes and activities. 


Course objectives

  • Understand what pleasurable food education is.
  • Gain ideas and strategies on establishing and setting up a garden and kitchen.
  • Learn the basics of running a garden class and garden safety.
  • Learn the basics of running a kitchen class and kitchen safety.
  • Explore opportunities for linking to learning.
  • Understand how to engage the community through volunteer networks and working bees, and build peer support.
  • Learn more about the Kitchen Garden Classroom and the benefits of membership.
  • Ask questions about what you need to deliver a kitchen garden program.
