We work alongside communities to support children and young people through place-based initiatives that support local neighbourhood priorities. We are evidence-based and draw on 20+ years of on-the-ground experience.

Every community is different, with its own strengths, stories, and ways of working. That’s why we prioritise recruiting locally, so our local project leads bring deep knowledge, strong relationships, and a lived understanding of the community they are part of. This local insight, combined with genuine collaboration, guides our work and creates meaningful, lasting impact.

Through hands-on support, we up skill, empower and build capacity for community members. When children, young people, educators, and community members come together to grow, harvest, prepare and share food, something special happens. Relationships are strengthened, social connections grow, and public spaces are reimagined in ways that bring people together.

This shared experience helps create vibrant, resilient and inclusive communities — places where people feel connected, supported and proud of where they live.

Since 2021, each of our Community Initiatives has been designed and delivered in line with our 10 Community Initiatives Fundamentals. These include a commitment to:

  • building strong, respectful relationships and aligning with local priorities
  • avoiding duplication of efforts
  • remaining flexible and adaptable
  • taking a tailored approach to suit each local context

We’re looking for funding partners and collaborators who want to help grow the reach of our Community Initiatives.

We collaborate with government, corporate and philanthropic partners to create community-led impact in priority communities across Australia. Our Community Initiatives aim to improve equity for:

  1. Communities facing geographic barriers to health, wellbeing and learning
  1. First Nations communities
  1. Children and young people in regional, rural and remote areas

Together, we design initiatives that are grounded in place, shaped by local voices and focused on lasting change. We work alongside communities to understand their local health, wellbeing and learning priorities, strengthening support for children and young people and responding to our growing unmet demand.

Guided by our strategic plan, we’re committed to growing our Community Initiatives with place-based support that responds to local priorities and helps meet our huge unmet demand.

By investing in the power of place-based, community-led initiatives, we can build stronger, more connected, and more sustainable neighbourhoods — together.
