
This introductory, one-day training gives educators practical skills and experience as they learn how to integrate a kitchen garden program into their school or centre and deliver engaging, successful pleasurable food education to their students. It is also suitable for Kitchen Garden Program Schools who have new or additional staff to train.
Details
The training covers all elements of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation’s philosophy and delivery. It centres on the hands-on aspect of delivering kitchen and garden classes, but also includes sessions on integrating pleasurable food education, planning menus and creating garden activities, as well as planning classes and incorporating volunteers.
The pricing structure is as follows:

* Kitchen Garden Classroom members*: $250

Each training day is led by an experienced facilitator who will provide opportunities for you to ask questions and discuss your school or centre’s individual circumstances. The day will also feature a delicious shared lunch based on Kitchen Garden Program recipes.

Early Childhood Educators:
This course is intended to support the implementation of the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) National Quality Standards.
Completing Delivering Kitchen Garden Classes reinforces the following elements:
- 1.1.1 – Curriculum decision making contributes to each child’s learning and development outcomes in relation to their identity, connection with community, wellbeing, confidence as learners and effectiveness as communicators.
- 2.2.1 – Healthy eating is promoted and food and drinks provided by the service are nutritious and appropriate for each child.
- 3.3.2 – Children are supported to become environmentally responsible and show respect for the environment.
Primary and Secondary Teachers:
The outcomes of this course are aligned to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers as outlined by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL).
Completing Delivering Kitchen Garden Classes will contribute evidence towards 5.0 hours of accredited professional development in maintaining the following standards:
- 2.2 – Content selection and organisation
- 3.2 – Plan structure and sequence learning programs
- 3.4 – Select and use resources
- 4.2 – Manage classroom activities
- 6.2 – Engage in professional learning and improve practice.
