Composting is a key skill for all kitchen gardeners to close the nutrient loop, improve your soil health, and promote a strong harvest. Matt Quinn from SA Composters will be exploring a number of different composted products and composting techniques that can be used in your school to reduce waste and produce high-quality organic soil amendments on site.

Details

Matt established SA Composters in 1990, a culmination of a love of surfing and fear of pimples that initiated an early interest in health and organic food. After completing a degree in Biology at Flinders University, Matt's interest in food took over and an organic gardening course with Peter Bennett cemented the connection between health and good-quality soil. A 1997 Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellowship enabled Matt to visit 42 international composters on his search for some answers to life, the universe and composting.

SA Composters Pty Ltd has developed over 22 years into a major recycler of green waste. Organic certification for the natural composting process ensures the finished product is high quality and excellent for growing food. The company now employs eight people, is based in Lonsdale SA and is open to the public. The bagged products are available in 30 garden centres and three tipper trucks are on the road deleivering compost products to homes. Matt is more than qualified to talk about the art and science of composting, and pass his skills on to a lucky group of trainees.
