Wendy van Dort is an experienced gardener and environmental educationalist, and joins us today for a brief foray into the wide world of edible indigenous food plants. These plants are not only beautiful and functional, they are most often incredibly drought tolerant and adaptive to the local region, and as such may provide welcome additions to the home garden.

Details

Hosted within the Learning Centre garden, this workshop focuses on Australian indigenous food plants that can be grown in the Melbourne region. Wendy will guide the group through a variety of edible indigenous plants, or 'bush tucker' plants, talking about growing them, their uses in food, and how they fit within the suburban and school garden.

Additional Details

Please bring a pair of gardening gloves and wear covered shoes and appropriate outdoor clothing suitable for being in the garden. The workshop will run in all weather.

Enter the College via the main reception area, which is located near the end of Cromwell Street, and follow the signs to the garden.

Public transport is usually the best way to get to Collingwood College, with Collingwood train station only minutes away. On Saturdays there may be limited parking in the immediate vicinity of the College. Other parking options are generally the north and south sides of Hoddle Street, in Gipps Street and in the parking zone at the end of Islington Street.
