Enjoy a day of learning and sharing in this hands-on workshop. You'll learn new skills and advance your existing ones under the guidance of experienced presenters, while sharing and networking with fellow Kitchen and Garden Specialists and Teachers.
Join Stephanie at this session! Kitchen Garden Program Founder Stephanie Alexander AO will be on hand (and hands-on) during this professional development day – join us to hear all about her recipe for pleasurable food education.
Details
The morning session will focus on a choice of either ‘Kitchen’ or ‘Garden’ stream.
Use the garden opportunity to see a different school layout and compare how it could be done at your school. Share and gather ideas from other gardeners, and bring along your top tips plus any excess plants/seeds to share.
In the kitchen we'll be using recipes adapted from Vimla Hayman originals, unlocking the secrets of using herbs and spices to enhance flavour. Vimla is Indian-Fijian and brings with her a rich cultural background, demonstrated in delicious recipes that she has shared with us in past sessions. Look forward to a journey through the world of spices!
In the afternoon, we'll share experiences and learn about effective teaching ideas in the kitchen and garden as well as discuss ongoing concerns around fundraising and budgeting. There will also be a chance to get further acquainted with the Shared Table.
To finish the day, you'll enjoy another hands-on activity with a discussion on deepening and developing the learning opportunities within the Program, and its links to your school curriculum.
While members are welcome to attend this workshop, if you have just joined the Kitchen Garden Classroom we recommend you attend the Delivering Kitchen Garden Classes workshop in Hobart on 8 September.
