Brian is a third generation food gardener, and can always remember having a kitchen garden throughout his life. After completing a visual arts degree in 1999, his passion for gardening and sustainable food production led him to design and establish Bendigo's first community garden, Gravel Hill Gardens. Here he worked for five years teaching permaculture, establishing a local seed bank and plant nursery, and starting a Community Supported Agriculture system on the two-acre site in central Bendigo. Since 2007 Brian has been educating students in primary schools, including as a Garden Specialist at Eaglehawk PS, where he teaches children all aspects of food growing, soil husbandry, composting and plant propagation. Brian also consults to schools and the general public regarding food gardening and permaculture.Brian is working to establish his own permaculture garden among 18 acres of box-ironbark forest in Axedale where he lives with his family
