A hands-on session showing how to nurture your school garden's soil to optimum health, and will include minerals and their role, the soil food web, how to brew microbes and why foliar feeding is important.

Details

Robyn Cook is the Home and School Garden Specialist for Nutri-Tech Solutions, and Australian leader in agricultural products, services and education based on the Sunshine Coast. Robyn has been a volunteer at Chevallum School's garden since 2002 and became the garden teacher and program coordinator when the school received the SAKG grant in early 2009. Other things that keep Robyn busy include a regular radio segment on ABC Coast FM talking about being frugal whilst still producing nutrient-dense food and giving presentations and workshops on soil nutrition.

Additional Details

Participants are asked to bring along one or two soil samples (about 300g each sample) to test for pH and texture.

Enter the College via the main reception area, which is located near the end of Cromwell Street, and follow the signs out to the garden.

Public transport is the best way to get to Collingwood College, with Collingwood train station only minutes away. There is generally no parking in the immediate vicinity of the College. Best parking options are generally the north and south sides of Hoddle Street, in Gipps Street and in the parking zone at the end of Islington Street.
