Learn about the life cycle of mushrooms and make your own mini mushroom farm to take home.

In this introductory workshop Todd Mansfield, of Fungi Culture, will teach you the basics of mushroom cultivation taking you through the steps needed to grow the  sustainable and nutritious oyster mushroom. They can be grown both indoors on a kitchen counter and outdoors in and around the garden on logs and stumps. Todd will also show you how to grow mushroom spawn from purchased mushrooms.

Details

Todd Mansfield has been cultivating mushrooms for more than five years. He focuses on low-tech, simple methods for growing gourmet and medicinal mushrooms and enthusiastically  researches and trials  new methods of sustainable cultivation. Educating people on where their food comes from and the simple delights of growing your own is very important to him.

Todd has presented popular workshops in Kitchen Garden Program training and participants always come away enthusiastic, inspired and full of knowledge. We’re excited he will be leading our first public class on growing mushrooms.

Please bring appropriate outdoor gear such as garden gloves, hats or coats. If weather is inclement the workshop will move indoors.

Enter the College via the main reception area, which is located near the end of Cromwell Street, and follow the signs to the kitchen where we will meet before heading to the garden.

Public transport is often a good way to get to Collingwood College, with Collingwood train station only minutes away. However, on Saturdays there is usually parking available in the immediate vicinity of the College. Other parking options are generally the north and south sides of Hoddle Street, in Gipps Street and in the parking zone at the end of Islington Street.

Please note, the Foundation endeavours to proceed with each Public Workshop as planned, however in the instance of very low numbers of registrants or other unfortunate events we reserve the right to cancel a workshop up to 48 hours before scheduled. In all cases we will do our utmost to inform registrants a week in advance of any cancellation, and a 100% refund will be made
